One of the best parks in Maryland! Walking, hiking and hiking trails abound. Excellent maintenance, clean restrooms, and attentive park rangers. Summer weekends fill up fast, often by 10am, so arrive early if you want to be sure to get access. A seasonal park pass is recommended if you're a frequent visitor, otherwise a $3 entrance fee is required.
I love this place! Has great hiking and biking trails and an awesome pedestrian suspension bridge. Also, you can hike by ruins and the train tracks on the grist Mill side.
Too me, most of it is along the river banks where people picnic or fish.
It's a very beautiful Park for parties, picnics or to have a family reunion. It has a gorgeous scenery with lots of trees and Greenland for relaxing with a blanket, there's a grill for your outdoors chef as well as a water supply. Bathrooms are available and there's tons of parking spaces, an awesome place to have fun with family and friends and all for a small fee.
People need to have consequences for their actions. My idea is maybe policing these areas and asking for identification. Later to be followed up, if trash is left, will help prevent littering.
We stayed at the Hollofield Area campground for one night, just me and my 4 year old son. We arrived later than the online reservation system said so I wasn't sure if there would be anyone to check us in but there was. They were very nice and informative. Also... Since they don't allow outside wood to come in you have to buy from the campground. But it's cheap, decent wood. All in all a great experience for my son and that's what counts.
There are no trash container available and I believe I can understand why. Also, the rangers can't be trash collectors as well.
I'm a senior citizen that have fished the river at Avalon for years. I fish year long through the winter as well.
But, every year it gets worse. It's at an alarming rate that people leave trash.
